In the movie The Graduate, which was released in 1967, there was a famous line about plastics. The scene was between Benjamin Braddock, the graduate, played by Dustin Hoffman, and Mr. McGuire, played by Walter Brooke. Mr. McGuire said to Benjamin, “I want to say one word to you. Just one word. Benjamin: Yes, Sir. Mr. McGuire: Are you listening? Benjamin: Yes, I am. Mr. McGuire: PLASTICS. Benjamin: Exactly how do you mean? Mr. McGuire: There’s a great future in plastics. Think about it. Cut to 2021 and plastic has overtaken our environment. Our guest Alexis Goldsmith, National Organizing Director of Beyond Plastics is helping lead the way to reduce plastic use, and tackle the plastic problem. We discuss the connection between plastics and fracking, plastics and climate change, and the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act. For more info go to beyondplastics.org.
